Airbus A320 is a family of commercial jet airliners in the short-range and medium-range market. Entering service in 1984, the A320 was the first passenger airliner using a fly by wire control system instead of the customary cable and hydraulic controls. The longer A321 entered service in 1994, the shorter A319 in 1996, and the still shorter A318 in 2003. More than 8,000 of these unique airliners have been ordered by airlines, more than 5,600 of them have been delivered, and almost 5,500 are still in service.

The main distinctions among the four models are length, weight, and capacity. The A318 is the shortest and lightest, the A321 is the longest and heaviest, and the A319 and A320 respectively fall between the extremes. Those differences are obvious when visibly comparing models to one another.
